I liked this book, but it felt very prequalish to the "bring back vampires to ya" cheer everyone is spouting about this book. I would have liked more actual vampires and less prequel to the vampire world!! Love her writing though, haven't read anything by her and I am interested to see where the series goes. Those things kept me reading but I did not get any sultry romance from it and it did not dig into the New Orleans underground vampire world like I was hoping. Maybe in book 2! ...more

I wasn't sure what to think of this book due to the rather mixed reviews I'd read. I think some people were expecting more of an Anne Rice-like vampire tale, but I don't generally like vampire stories, so I noticed the differences in the description that made it sound different than that to me (despite the bad marketing campaign to make it seem such).
