I enjoyed this book a lot. Zuri's love for her hood in Brooklyn was all that was needed to pull me in as a Brooklyn native myself. I found her to be funny and quick-witted. I love the slow build romance between her and Darius throughout the book. It brought me back to being young and feeling those first butterflies from a boy. I also love the side characters and everything Ibi throws in to give the book extra meat. The differences bewteen Darius and Zuri's upbringing definitely gave way to furth ...more

This is a modern re-telling of the classic Pride and Prejudice. There are some wonderful aspects to this story. First, Ibi Zoboi's voice is unique and powerful. She writes strong women characters that many young girls can relate to. Zuri is intelligent, driven and isn't going to take any crap from anyone! I loved that about her and how she and her four sisters show up as characters in this book. I loved her mother and father, Madrina and the loveable cast of neighborhood characters.
