This author tends to write darker stories with darker characters, yet there is always a bit more to the characters than originally meets the eye. They have layers, which keeps me interested. I really liked the heroine in this story. She was doomed, yet unwilling to give in to her darkness. She stuck to her beliefs and was willing to die in order to see them through. I didn’t like it. Uh! I hate when I’m excited for a book and then…wawawaaa. The concept was interesting, and author, Rosamund Hodge, wrote an intriguing history, but it was all too much darkness and self-hate.
