This was such a lovely read. Like if a book could be a cute little pink cupcake with sprinkles on top, it would be this book. As promised, The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea is a tale reminiscent of Spirited Away with a girl swept into the world of strange spirits, trying to free a cursed sea god with a dragon soul to save her people. In the process, her fate binds with another god, one who has lost his soul and what he was meant to protect.

Solid four stars. Loved all the characters, although it would have been a five star book if the world-building had been a bit more robust. There was also a major resolution that seemed too easy and had no explanation of how it actually happened (sorry, can’t say more without spoilers). Despite the weaknesses, it was still such a lovely story that I highly recommend it.
While there are some serious stakes in this story, it still had the feel of a cozy fantasy. I had a great time with this one!

This was very meh for me. It wasn't bad or anything. But I found it very underwhelming. I was expecting something more epic. And it just wasn't. I did quite enjoy the unique amalgamation of Korean, Chinese and Japanese folklore and mythology. And I didn't see the twists at the end coming. And the characters were fine. The plot was fine. That's how I felt overall. It's fine. Not great. But not bad either.
