I was pretty impressed with this book. I went into it blind (like I do with everything) and I wasn't 100% sure I was going to love it. I couldn't put it down. It reminded me of Mexico and the culture there. I am not Hispanic but my husband was born and raised in Baja Mexico and I met him there. While I had a hard time connecting or caring very much about the main character, aND overall I did enjoy the book. However, I am not the target audience and I can see what many teens could con net wit the ma in character, while I thought she was a little mean and thought she was better than her friends. What an incredible read! I love that I could connect with the lead who is a young Latinx!
I finished this book in a day. It was a sharp contrast from the book I had just finished (The Vanishing Half) because the MC, Julia, was so much more in touch with her feelings than the characters in the other book. I felt for Julia and her struggles, and although Olga's "secret life" was the big mystery of the story, it was Julia's growth that really made me want to keep reading.
