In general I do not enjoy James Patterson novels as I find them predictable and formulaic but for some reason I quite enjoy the Maximum Ride series. I found the characters to be interesting and I found the story to be fascinating. I liked how it was fantastical but also believable enough that it felt like the vents could maybe actually happen. The writing style is very readable if a bit simplistic.

I would only give this 2 stars because I thought the story dragged on and on. It just didn't grab my interest and I have no desire to read any of the subsequent books.

The book has a great story line, but the way that the chapters are designed breaks up the natural flow of reading and tends to distract the reader. The characters are well-developed and are very interesting. There is a lot of suspense in this series, and I really enjoy that. There is also a good bit of humor. The only problem that I have is that the overall story does not seem to be suitable for the audience that it is designed for: young adults (whose readers tend to be adolesence to teenagers) ...more

This is a really exciting book. I really like books with protagonists who are created genetically to have certain abilities. The kids in this book have wings. They are on the run from the evil school and scientists who created them. It is very exciting and the characters are very likeable.
