I really enjoyed this book. It is a companion novel to Graceling, which has an equally intriguing story line. In this story, Fire is a strong female character who has the power to control peoples actions by entering their minds with her thoughts. This power comes from her parentage as part monster, someone who is abnormally beautiful in all aspects. This beauty makes all around her do all kinds of crazy things. I love Kristin Cashore's writing style and her characters. I think her world building is excellent although it can get a bit overly complicated at points. I do think the Graceling Realm books started off incredibly strong and got a bit weaker with each subsequent book.

I enjoyed this book just as much as I enjoyed Graceling. I liked that the books are set in the same world and have some overlap but at the same time it’s a new story with new characters.
