Soo...I'm really trying to finish this book but I have to say it is so hard for me. I'm about half way through and I can't stand so many things about this book. The writing is very juvenile, to me anyway, The author makes the main character seem shallow. For example, Luce is obsessed with the main guy Daniel without even talking to him, but she doesn't know why and he treats her disrespectfully, and she still pursues him. The story of fallen angels takes a new twist in Lauren Kate's Fallen. I have not read much about fallen angels, fictionalized or theologically. So, I enjoyed taking my fantasy mind to a different dimension.

The character development was well done and enjoyable, however, the situations these characters get into were unrealistic from the start. Since this is a fictional work, I tried not to let it get to me. As a reader, I just tend to have a harder time with stories that by all appearances, seem The story of fallen angels takes a new twist in Lauren Kate's Fallen. The character development was well done and enjoyable, however, the situations these characters get into were unrealistic from the start. Since this is a fictional work, I tried not to let it get to me. As a reader, I just tend to have a harder time with stories that by all appearances, seem to be set in the modern world, but then stray from the conventional understandings of how society operates. To me, a good author is able to closely weave the fantasy strands with those of the real world, making you believe that this really could be happening right now with very little stretch of the imagination.

I don't want to spoil the story for anyone, but I did have some more specific issues with the writing too. Continue reading at your own risk.

From the beginning of the story, Luce is constantly plagued by the shadows. She seems to constantly be aware of them or their absence. This goes on for over half the book and then suddenly, the shadows are forgotten. They are no longer present and she does not wonder where they are or when they will return. This seems very different from the girl readers are first introduced to. And I found myself wondering where the shadows were and then questioning why she wasn't the least big concerned. If anything, I would have expected her to notice they were not around and be happy for the break. But no, she does not even acknowledge them being gone. It was as though the author took a complete break from the issue of the shadows, only to then bring them back in later. In my mind, this is a BIG PLOT HOLE!

And I'm sorry, but the hair cutting at the beginning with none of the adults noticing or asking how she was able to get her hair cut when the students are not allowed to own any scissors/sharp objects? Perhaps this is the adult, but I would have at least expected some questions or consequences.

Despite the writing issues, I did enjoy the story and I am looking forward to seeing the further developments in the next installment.

Not enough action in the first seven chapters to keep me invested or even interested in the story. Oh, well--DNF it is. No point in forcing myself to read it.

Probably won't give this one a full-length review because I didn't even make it halfway. However, what I will say is that the plot is really slow and the love interest (triangle?
