Writing this review was really difficult, I really liked the book but you could taste from the way it’s written that it was indeed written by two different authors, the actual pace of the book shifted from really fast to really slow making it sometimes hard to read on my opinion, even thou, the book left me pleasantly surprised when I finished it.

There seems to be a love hate relationship with this book but I'm smack in the middle. I enjoyed the humor and strong sense of place, but found some of the writing overdone and the plot more complicated than it needed to be. I think the writers were trying to be mysterious (not to mention eager to draw you into the next book) but there were definitely parts that left me just scratching my head. That said I found it nice to read a love story without uncertainty about the love itself. ...more

Beautiful Creatures was an amazing book, unfortunately the rest of the series and the movie version were not nearly as good but this book can be read on its own and its great. The premise of the story and the characters themselves are clever and well written.

While I enjoyed the Southern-ness of this book, the whole forbidden romance thing was a bit too Twilighty for me. I find romance from a young adult perspective difficult to enjoy/endure when one has left the realm of high anxiety early adolescence. Regardless, here's to mixing witchcraft and Confederate lore! I would check out the next book if I found a cheap copy of it. ...more
