4.5 Stars! The Fifth Wave isn't my typical quick pick book...it's about an alien invasion after all, BUT it is YA dystopia/post-apocalyptic writing at its best. Huge kudos to Yancy for writing complex and oh so perfectly imperfect characters that I absolutely love! Cassie's lonely journey from violent distrust to falling for the enemy read seamlessly and every word had me hooked. Cassie's relationship with Sammy and her dedication to him was endearing and self-sacrificing, but her strange relati ...more

I feel like this was an amalgamation of all the best parts of popular sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, dystopian novels. A little bit The Host, a little bit Divergent, a little bit Ender's Game, and a little Life As We Knew It. (Let me know if I missed anything.) What made this book different, and why I couldn't put it down, was really three things.

This book was really amazing and deserves more than five stars. It is a crazy dystopian/alien invasion/sci-fi novel that had me hooked from page one. I loved the writing style and the different narratives. I would get totally sucked into one na

Great book, I was definitely hooked from the beginning. I think this is a great portrayal of an alien invasion. I liked all the characters and how the story unfolds piece by piece. This book kept me up reading late into the night!

I don't read much sci-fi, and I'm pretty sure I've never read an alien book, so I don't have much to compare this to. I was totally involved in the story, and couldn't decide which character I liked best as all of the primary characters were distinctively drawn and sympathetic in their own way. I'll definitely read on.
