Shelves: reviewed, young-adult, romance, realistic, chick-lit, e-book, contemporary, couple-covers, genre-challenge-2014

Typical Sarah Dessen contemporary. It's heartwarming and occasionally funny. It teaches some grand lesson about being yourself and learning to break free. It babbles a bit about second chances and family. And then there is, of course, the meaning of friendship and bright clean romance.

It's a sparkly, bubblegum story that it meant to show that people can overcome hardship - but really comes off overly gooey. So then why the four stars? Because, as it turns out, people like mushy stuff. The happy ...more

Auden isn't your typical teenage girl. She's a driven student at school on her way to a prestigious university. Her focus on the academic side of life has meant that her social life suffered a bit--she's never really had close female friends and her prom date stood her up to go to an academic conference.

I've only read a few of Sarah Dessen's books, but I have to say that this is my hands down favorite. I was really able to relate to and identify with the main character. And I liked how quiet this book is, I don't mean quiet in the boring sense, but rather in the sense that this is a turn off the radio, lock yourself in room kind of book and just let the words of the book and nothing else wash over you, and also quiet in the sense that the plot moved pretty slowly.
