I read this book for the first time in college. I was in a military school and the concept of "self" was something that was not in line with what we were being taught.

To be honest, after all the recommendations I'd received about this book, I expected it to be far more gripping than it actually was. A great novel, but it felt rather like my interpretation of Gatsby: I didn't have any connection to the characters.
