I pains me to admit I like Niall Ferguson's book and that we share a lot of the same ideas.

Ferguson covers how money came to rule the world through different inventions and instruments such as bonds, insurance, etc. And through those instruments, we--men, mostly--set off to destroy the world. I got the feeling that Ferguson hates people and thinks they're just a bunch of greedy and irrational assholes. I couldn't say I disagree (that's why 4-star.) What an interesting read. I believe that the topics discussed in the book are of vital importance to our society today. I believe that we need to better educate our citizens about how financial markets work, and how to best protect our interests.
Take heart when reading. There were places in the book even I had a bit of trouble following, and I have a Master's in the subject. I recommend reading for overall understanding, rather than trying to remember specific names and dates - there are a lot ...more
