I couldn’t put this book down. The story was so compelling and the characters were so great (I think Baba was my favorite). I know so little about Afghanistan and this was an interesting way to learn about its history, it’s people, and culture. I had no idea kite battles and kite running were a thing there. Maybe **1/2

I didn't care for this book. Perhaps it's because I had just finished reading The In-Between World of Vikram Lall by M J Vassanji and, in comparison, The Kite Runner just didn't stand up.

I couldn't put this book down, and I itched for it when I wasn't able to read. It was also a learning experience, and it makes me want to read/learn more about Afghanistan history and how our current war fits within a longer view of time, especially from the Afrghani perspective. I won't give any of the details away, but my heart bled for Hassan. At the same time, I found myself torn over my emotional connection to the main character, Amir. I'm looking forward to reading Hosseini's next novel: A ...more

The beginning seemed slow, but all of that information really was necessary. By the midpoint of the book, I couldn't put it down. The second half was finished in 2 days (that's really fast for me). Such a sad story, but one with hope and a better understanding of a different culture. Might try to read his other book soon. ...more
