I think Paul's review where he describes this book as similar to blancmange is pretty good, and had me laughing out loud. I was captivated by Murakami's novel but I found the experience profoundly dissatisfying and depressing. And yet I could not stop reading. I do believe there is same sheer brilliance in the writing (some very weird bits too), with a lot of 'netherworld' goings on, but for me personally overall it was not as good as I expected it to be when I got hooked in the first few chapte
