Remember when we used to have live TV and stations would air previews for a program they were trying to promote? Have you ever then gone and watched that program only to discover that the preview was kind of misleading?

I don't tend to be a huge fan of nonfiction. I can make my way through a good nonfiction book, but I don't tend to find them to be page-turners. The first third of this book was like this. I found the story of Louis Zamperini interesting, but the military history was not all that interesting. When I got to the part when the green hornet crashed, that all changed and I became fascinated, staying up much last my normal bedtime for multiple nights to finish.

An amazing story of survival. Gave me a perspective on the Pacific front that I did not have. Louie's capacity for survival, and eventually forgiveness, is inspiring. Highly recommended.

loved it. the story is phenomenal. but it's hillenbrand's prose that gets me in the gut.
