Whoever designed the cover of this novel and came up with its title (because I refuse to believe either of these disasters were Jess Walter’s doing) must have had one thing in mind: make this book appear to be as much of a chick-lit beach read as possible. I loved this book! One of our Goodreads Book Club selections for earlier this year, it took me a while to get a copy, but it was worth the wait. It does help that I have wonderful memories of Italy and I so enjoy a well written book. NPR's Fresh Air describes it as "A literary miracle". Published in 2012 and set mostly in two storylines (Italy in the 1960's and USA in the present day), the characters are beautifully and sensitively woven together, keeping you hooked from the first page. I enjoyed this love story set back in 1962 in Italy. The characters are either very likable or very unlikable. The ending is somep predictable but still enjoyable.
