What Members Thought

As it turned out, I had already read at least three of these stories, as Saunders is often published in The New Yorker. I don't want to say that these are dark, but they do not tend to feature happy people - in particular there was one story with a main character who was so petty and delusional that I had to stop reading it. This is not to say that the characters have nothing good going for them - overall they are pretty realistic, flawed people, which always makes for interesting reading.

First and last stories are extraordinary. My fave was the 2 page gut punch called "Sticks", about a family's regrets, because, pathos. Some of the stories in the middle were a bit middling tho.
