I couldn't put this book down. It was a good mix of good characters and intrigue. The book tells the story of deep family secrets and what it takes to expose them. This book is a pretty fast read even at over 400 pages. It's perfect summer reading!
One of the outstanding features of the book is the character of Lisbeth Salander. She is a really cool character. She's very strong and very smart and definitely resourceful.
I look forward to reading the rest of the series! ...more

After everyone in my life read "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" I figured my vacation would be the perfect time to pick up a best selling thriller. This is one of those books that really, really makes me wish Goodreads allowed us to give half stars. On one hand, I flew through this book-- it was a quick read that certainly kept me on the edge of my seat. On the other hand, it was incredibly violent and much of that violence was directed at women.

You MUST make yourself get through the first 100 pages. The towns and amount of characters make getting started hard, but it's an amazing story. I started it twice before I was hooked... and then I was trapped on a flight, so I got past the slow start. Now on the 3rd book in the series.

The problem with having a BA in English is that it's easier to fall into the trap of avoiding genre fiction. I know enough about my likes to know that I enjoy some fantasy and sci-fi, but I have staunchly considered myself to not be mystery reader for quite a while. As I finished this up last night at 1am, I realized that I need to get over myself. This was fantastic, and the only reason I read it was because a friend recommended it -- I had read a synopsis of it somewhere and it just didn't app

I don't generally like mysteries, I definitely don't like reading about disturbing/dark incidents, and I don't enjoy reading works in translation (the dialogue often feels stilted and part of why I like reading is to see what beautiful things writers do with language, which is missing in a translation). This book has all three of those elements, weighing down its star rating. I did finish it, though, because I was interested in the main characters and the plot's resolution. It's almost two separ

When I first began reading this book, I couldn't understand why everyone was so in love with it. The first 200 pages are incredibly boring and tedious to get through. It took way too long for the action to begin. However, once it picked up, the book became an exciting read. I very much enjoyed the last few hundred pages.

I really don't get what the fuss is about. It gets more readable about 2/3 of the way in, if I remember correctly: it stops being a chore and starts being mildly entertaining. I can think of a lot of trashy mystery novels I have read with a lot more gusto.
I wonder if my problem is not being awestruck by Lisbeth. She is interesting---the bits following her investigations are some of the most interesting in the book---but her philosophy and approach to life really don't shock me or shake me up. Pe ...more

I found the characters intriguing, but having two mysteries got a little confusing for me. I have ordered the second, but found the ending a little abrupt and was disappointed that Lisbeth's background is never given.

I initially read about this book on-line, and picked up the hardcopy version on the off chance it might live up to the hype. It was different from how I thought it would be, but I loved it. At times, it almost read like it was written by an angry woman who disliked men, but no, it was written by a Swedish man instead. I enjoyed it so much I ordered both the sequels from Amazon.co.uk, as they were released over in Europe over a year before they were here in the US.
