I want to elaborate on this review later, but in my post bar exam laziness I have returned to some of the satisfying literary genres of my past -- namely fantasy and murder mysteries. But I was mistaken in thinking this would be a mindless read. Cotterill has created another great detective for the ages in Dr. Siri, and the background of post-revolution Laos adds a layer of political intrigue that is both engaging and enlightening to the "Western" reader.
