Amazing how a book I approached with curious ambivalence (Really? Neo-Nazi plotline and WWII backstory?) became an engrossing read featuring one of my new favorite central characters in a series in the span of a day. At 10am Sunday morning, I was on page 167, debating whether I would finish the book. At 1:40am Monday morning, I am on the DC library site looking for the next book available in the series. Still enjoyed this! The plot is a little complex to follow - mostly due to the unfamiliar names, I think, but I had an easier time with that on this re-read. I'd say it was because it was a re-read, but I had completely forgotten the twist so I'm not sure how true that would be. I also tried to make more of a point of paying attention to the date and time at the start of every chapter, which helps with the timeline.

This was definitely my favorite Nesbo book so far. Although I'm starting to get tired of the "woman Harry cares for is murdered, which drives Harry to fall into a pit of despair only to overcome his demons and solve the case!" which has happened in every single book. But at least one woman is still alive, hopefully to be back in the next book? I still liked this one enough where I'm not going to give up on the series, which I was about to do after cockroaches.
