A good solid mystery, nicely paced, interesting characters I feel I want to know more abou. There was a satisfying conclusion to the central crime that was not a bolt out of the blue with a last minute character making an appearance. The book was a nice diversion, liked it enough to check out her next book and maybe read the rest of her collection as it is published in the US. I wish I read Swedish, because I think the nuances got lost in the translation.
I think I need to stay away from Scandanavian mystery for a while - though the story bears no resemblance to the high-powered political drama of Dragon Tattoo, I found myself searching for it in what amounted to a regular mystery in a small town that happened to be desperately cold.
Though an enjoyable read - I particularly liked the main character, who had a sort of self-conscious chick lit inner monologue at times - I'm not desperate to see what else Ms. Lackberg has for us. ...more
