I had to return this to the library, so I'm paused in the early pages. I'm of two minds on this book. On the one hand, the pure silliness of the premise and illustrations are entertaining -- the Bennett girls are being raised to be awesome ninja-esque zombie-fighting machines and there are picutres of Lizzy high-kicking zombies who break into a ball. :P But on the other hand, it felt like just reading the same book -- only now with zombies -- and I'd want to see *how* the plot differs because of

When I first began this book, I disliked it. The co-author mangled some of Austen's most elegant prose, and the interleaving of zombie-killing with the rest of the story seemed clumsy. However, later in the book, the co-author leaves more of the best passages intact and the integration of zombie hoopla became more clever (the treatment of Charlotte and Mr. Collins was particularly interesting). Overall, an irreverent but affectionate re-casting of a classic story.

I enjoyed this. I'm a huge fan of Jane Austen's work, and found it very amusing to see someone take it and have so much fun with it. The basic plot elements are all there, as are the zombies. There are some very interesting new pieces of background for the characters, and some fight scenes as you might imagine. If you're a fan of the original, I'd recommend checking this out. It's a great light read.
