This book was extremely funny, and full of raunchy frolic, but I felt that it was lacking in depth. It may be b/c I've just finished reading The Blade Itself and Before They are Hanged, which spoiled me depth-wise. But I have also read and loved Lamb by Christopher Moore, and I liked that better. It had great jokes, but I felt that the world and the characters were really surface-y.

Bawdy (almost uncomfortable so at times) but riotous throughout! I know enough about Shakespeare's Lear for the story to be able to follow his trajectory by re-telling the tale from the Fool's perspective. Didn't inspire me to go back to the source material, but did start me on my trip through Moore's works!

I couldn't get into it. I tried, but there are too many books by my bed that need reading to struggle this hard to get through a book. I might revisit it in the future.

"Fool" is a retelling of King Lear, through the eyes of the king's fool. It is the quintessential madcap romp, in which the characters just barely skate by the edge of being self-aware. If you can imagine the play turned into a comedy and find yourself intrigued, then I encourage you to pick this up. It's bawdy, completely ridiculous and wonderful fun. Quite funny, and quite enjoyable.
