A story about 2 sisters who are living in San Francisco and Boston during the dot.com era: one a successful CEO and another a hippie Berkley student who works at a bookstore and about their relationships with their boyfriends. Great themes about one's values, relationships, definitions of success and how wealth or perceived wealth can change everything. Ugg. I usually can't go lower than two stars no matter how indifferent I feel towards something, but I was actually intrigued by how annoying this was and it kept me reading until I made myself return it to the library in order to stop the cycle of hurt.

I'm still searching for a modern Jane Austen read-alike, and,despite the reviews and comparisons, this isn't it. Yes, it's a densely populated (perhaps too densely) and gracefully / simply written book with some sense of the '90's era sensibilities, but it lacks Austen's wit and all of the convoluted social norms and complications. I always think I'm going to love Allegra Goodman's books because I really liked Kaaterskill Falls, but I think at this point I have to acknowledge that I haven't liked any of the others as much - and was definitely disappointed by this one, although it was fine and entertaining. ...more
