This novel took a long time to pick up any sort of narrative force - a very long time, since it is a very long novel. Most (90%?) of the novel consists of people talking or thinking about the law or politics, and that's not terribly thrilling in a novel that aspires to be a high-brow legal thriller. At least that it what it seems to want to be, as the didactic sections were interspersed with murders, prostitution, and conspiracies.

I cannot believe he ends up getting shot and dying anyway. Several characters with similar names made the story line convoluted, still, I enjoyed the plot and the suspense of the impeachment trial up until the very end. I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys mysteries.
