Ok, this is probably unfair to only give it 3 stars. We need HALVES. I read it immediately following Dessen's The Truth About Forever, which I loved. And can't wait for her to sign my copy in a couple of weeks. Ok back to the book. What I really liked about this story was the humor. I listened to it on audio and found myself snorting or laughing out loud a lot. Aw, I love a Sarah Dessen book. She writes so accessibly and so well for teenage girls. Her books have well-developed, relatable and believable characters that make you hope they all turn out okay.
I've always had a problem with the covers that are chosen for her books because they aren't just peppy teen novels. However, I've recently thought they made be a good idea... Teen girls will pick up this book based on the cover and may not realize the depth that happens inside it.

I never got a feel for the main character, and even though that was part of her problem -- figuring out who she really was as she and her father moved around every few months -- it's hard to read a book where you're in the headspace of a character who's so blah and nondescript. Some of the supporting characters were more interesting and there were moments of authenticity that I appreciated, but on the whole I was fairly annoyed and not interested in what was happening.
