Our generation of writers will likely produce a great many novels about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is one of the better ones I have read (thus far), but there was something almost incomplete about it, to me. I never really bought into the central relationship, the friendship between Murph and Bartle (the narrator), and the resolution was a little too...neat. This was a promising debut novel, but I do feel that Powers was still holding back.
