3.5 stars. "The Light Between Oceans" is a historical fiction book that takes place in Australia. A couple is charged with keeping the lighthouse functioning on an island. It's just Isabel and Tom and no one else. Isabel longs for a baby but is not having any luck conceiving so when a boat washes up on the shore with a dead man and a baby, it seems like fate has brought the couple the baby that they long for. The author does a beautiful job of showing how complicated it can be to "do the right thing". The characters are rich and complex, yet it was easy to read.

If every book has it's reader, I was not this book's reader. Objectively speaking I can say that it was well written and I can see how it would be a book to be devoured by the right person. Since bad/hard things happen in relation to a child, I couldn't read more than a chapter or two at a time before I needed to put it down and read something else. Hence it took me 8 months to read.
