I obviously picked this up because of the movie, and I'm not ashamed to admit that. This is my first comic book, or graphic novel as those in the know call them; and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I was expecting a much more classical costumed hero story with clear lines between good and bad, impressively pure heroes, and some sort of villain whether apparent throughout or cloaked in shadows but whose presence was unmistakable. I will admit that I read The Watchmen because of the AWESOME preview I saw for the film (which also reignited my love of the Smashing Pumpkins). The graphic novel did not disappoint, and I can only hope that the film lives up to Moore's genius. I love how he toys with the idea of superheroes, how he layers different characters' stories, and the tweaked moral universe he's created. The art is classic and satisfying. Woohoo!

Dark and moody. I liked the fillers at the end of each chapter which provided an added dimension to the visual panes. I think it's a must read for anyone who considers themselves well-read to explore this American classic.
