If I were reviewing this as one of my graduate students' papers, "show don't tell" would be written on every. damn. page. Multiple first-person narrations, constant talking heads, and perpetually talking about what's happening instead of letting us see what's happening. It's a comic, not a novel! I get how and why this book changed comics and lives on in literally every best-of list, but at what cost? ...more
