I decided that I needed a break from the heavy emotional lifting of the last few books, so I chose to read American Born Chinese before Never Fall Down. Now that I am reading Never Fall Down, I know that it was a wise decision.

I read this for a DCPL book discussion among YA librarians, and I'm glad I did. It has 3 interlocking stories that tie together, and I'm a sucker for that sort of device. I also found myself wishing I knew more about the ways that graphic novels can be structured--I feel like going out and picking up Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics or something.
