I know I am like a decade late to the dave eggars party, but i did love this book. I found the endlessly, painfully self-conscious book aspect to be neither annoying nor trite, despite the enormous potential to be so. Although it seems that this genre only has room for one book, since the success in writing a knowingly-self-conscious heartbreaking memoir only comes from the feeling that the reader is being asked to just give the author a break since he's so self-conscious and his story so heartb

Bought it dirt cheap in Canada (when the US dollar was stronger there), it started out wonderfully and then suddenly I grew to hate David Eggers in the midst of him telling his story. I couldn't read more than a third of it.
