It'd been quite a while since I've read about the Masters of the Universe a la Bonfire of the Vanities, and I can see Wolfe revived them for the early 2000s in this overly drawn-out, stereotypical essay about college life at a small American college. Not every character is a typical entitled white dude, but nearly. And OMG, like, enough already. Not worth the time. I heard Kathryn point at this book at the library book sale and say, "Worst. Book. Ever." I don't really know why she hated it--- I always love Tom Wolfe's way of entering a new world and really using the right dialogue for the subject group-- I could picture him at some party in college just silently memorizing everything.
