Not my favorite Jane Austen due to a few annoying characters and the silly results of too much horror themed novel reading, but still a good listen on librivox by another favorite narrator, Elizabeth Klatt.

So the first time I listened to this book, the only version I could find was abridged. This combined with lack of literary acumen on my part in not realizing it was in fact a parody of gothic literature, caused me to count this as my least favorite of the Jane Austen books.

I dunno. Ok, I read this about 40 years ago and thought it was uneven but generally fun. Now... Not as much fun as I remember, but very uneven. The Bath part I found trying, a long yawn. I do enjoy Jane's direct address to the reader.

Fjnally at the Abbey things picked ip. I wondered if Jane never married because she did not find her Mr.Tilney?

As romance fiction ••
As gothic horror ••
As light historical (which it has become) •••.
