This was an incredibly profound book, and I have a feeling that it will shape the way I see the world and death from now on. I really wasn't expecting it to affect me this way, and it completely came out of nowhere. Can't recommend this one enough. Absolutely gorgeous in every way. ...more

Shelves: apocalypse, sci-fi, epidemic, afterlife

Beautifully written, dreamlike story about a global pandemic, a city of recently dead, and an isolated survivor in Antarctica who struggles to find out what is happening in the world.

Compelling ideas, especially about how humans are socially connected to other humans, but lacked something in the execution. It never really answers its own questions and seems to derail in the last chapter. Found it irritating that quite a few of the characters were almost stereotypes. The chapters set in Antarctica were riveting, however, and the corporate drone running around the afterlife trying to complete a cover-up started when he was alive was highly amusing.
