Shelves: prurience, tripe, urban-fantasy, dark-fantasy, disappointing

Colour me unimpressed. Another author who self-consciously tries so dang hard to make his readers think he's brilliant and insightful, but mistakes media for messages and content for substance. I'm giving it an extra star in large part because the author did at least attempt something incredibly ambitious. ...more

I picked up this book because I had read in a "scariest book you've ever read" thread that several people found this one to be terrifying. Honestly, after an initial "oh that could be creepy", I didn't find this very frightening. I think it had elements that could have been quite skin-crawling, but because these moments were so constantly interrupted by text of a different flavor, the fear never really had a chance to settle in for me. (Which is a good and a bad thing I guess!)
