This was my second read of Hater. I thought that I needed to reread it before moving on to book number two. I have recently read the Autumn series and loved it, solidifying me as a fan of David Moody. This return to the world of Daniel McCoyne and that of the haters was better the second time around.

Enjoyed this for the most part, despite the lack of a satisfactory ending (I can deal with stories that leave room to be continued, but am not such a fan of stories that feel more than a little incomplete).

The main character in this book, Danny, is just a regular guy - he works a shit job, he loves his family though they drive him nuts, he gets scared, he gets cranky, he doesn't always step up. In other words, he's kind of like you an me. On the other hand, it does get a little tireso

Up until the last 20 pages or so, I really liked this book. David Moody did a great job setting a tense mood and leaving me wondering what was going to happen. Like in "Autumn," he captures the emotions of the characters to a strange situation. For the last 20 pages though, the part where he built toward the sequel, I found the story flat. I think it was supposed to be building toward a big "Ride of the Valkyries" moment, but it was weak. Even the main character just wasn't interesting anymore. ...more

This is a decent book. I was somewhat off put by the author's writing style, which I found to be a little underwhelming. The story is certainly unique and held my attention throughout. I will be reading the remaining books in the series, so I do recommend this book. Don't expect the prose to awe you like a Stephen King's would. ...more

One day the world changes and no one realizes it. the violent crimes start increasing at an insane pace and seemingly normal people start lashing out for no apparent reason. Danny and his family watch as society crumbles around them and no one understands why. Fast and gripping story.

Obviously, I loved that book. One thing I hated though, reading those three final words: "to be continued"... I almost screamed! I just couldn't put the book down. It is such an interesting story, very well written, so believable it becomes down right scary. ...more
