I think Murakami must be like strong cheese, or liver: there's something very "love it or leave it" about his style.
I love it. I suppose it's the texture of his prose that I adore. Even in a book like this, where very little actually happens over the course of over 1,000 pages, I basically couldn't put it down. There's always some little side-story you want to resolve, some hint of mystery that draws you in, some lovely idea that you want to learn more about.
