This book immersively creates an alt early 19th century England where magic once existed and is now being rediscovered. The story and characters are well thought out. The book does take a careful read but is rewarding in the end.

OH. MY. GODS. THIS. BOOK.

This was the most magical book I've ever read in my life. I literally did not want it to end which is why it took me two months to read it. It's the first time I've ever taken this long to finish a book I love as usually I'll devour them in a matter of days. But I just didn't want to leave the world and even though I loved the ending so much, I didn't want the book to end one bit.

Simon Prebble's audiobook narration is stunningly good.

Book nerds and fantasy nerds rejoice for this novel! It is a meditation on the cruelties of British Imperialists and Faerie Kings, and a storybook treasury, all interwoven with real history and gorgeous images.
