I've had this on my to-read list but when it came time to crack the book, I got several chapters in and then skipped to the end. It's not that the premise isn't shocking, but really that the characters weren't appealing to follow. I'm not sure I quite understood Cat and her connection enough to be interested in her quest for justice for Patrick, who was a gay boy in a southern small town who was beaten, defiled, and embarrassed before being left for dead.

While Patrick lies in a hospital bed, comatose and fighting for his life after being beaten and left for dead in an apparent anti-gay hate crime at the gas station/mini-mart where he works, his friend Cat launches her own investigation.
