4.5. This was really good. It's probably the most science heavy sci-fi I've read in a while, but it was so good. It took me a bit to figure out what the heck was even going on, but that wasn't a bad thing. There were just a lot of threads hanging out there at one point. The author finally tied them all up in the last 15-20 pages though. It was very satisfying. I'm definitely going to continue with the series.

It reads like the author made up a bizarre and barely interesting plot for the purpose of explaining his philosophies and theories related to technological and scientific advances. Maybe if I read the book rather than listening to audiobook, I could have skimmed through the techno babble. As others said, there are certainly some interesting ideas and metaphors, but not worth the read.
