Read this for Martin Luther King Day/library winter reading challenge. It had been on my list for a while, but since graphic novels are not my favorite, hadn't gotten to it yet.

I thought it was a good introduction to the topic, and I will read the other volumes. Much of it was a very well known story, especially for someone as old as me who has taken entire semester classes on the era. But I really enjoyed learning the behind-the0-scenes stuff about John Lewis, such as his raising of chickens,

John Robert Lewis' story of his upbringing and eventual move to politics during MLK's non-violent protests that encouraged his political views and enticed him into civil service. The story flashes back to his upbringing on a chicken farm, where he talked took care of them, read the Bible to them, and then saw them on the table for dinner, but it taught him work ethic.
