Read this for Martin Luther King Day/library winter reading challenge. It had been on my list for a while, but since graphic novels are not my favorite, hadn't gotten to it yet.
I thought it was a good introduction to the topic, and I will read the other volumes. Much of it was a very well known story, especially for someone as old as me who has taken entire semester classes on the era. John Robert Lewis' story of his upbringing and eventual move to politics during MLK's non-violent protests that encouraged his political views and enticed him into civil service. The story flashes back to his upbringing on a chicken farm, where he talked took care of them, read the Bible to them, and then saw them on the table for dinner, but it taught him work ethic.
