I'm not quite sure how I feel about this book. I enjoyed it while I was reading it, but I also took a week-long hiatus from it and didn't miss it, didn't constantly wonder about the characters. I really liked the beginning, with Sam and Joe starting up their comic. It was full of excitement and energy. But it really dropped off when Joe went to war. I'm not sorry I read it, but I don't feel like I discovered new literary friends. ...more

Impressive. I loved the mix of styles and points of view, and the ambitious scope of this book. Everything about it was really incredable, but I didn't feel super connected to the characters for some reason, even though they were all sympathetic. I was always very aware of how impressive the writing was, so much so that I rarely got lost in the story. ...more
