I picked this book up; read a chapter, and put it down. Growing up in a dystopian landscape? Watching as the ties that once bound us together unravel? Watching as corporations get more and more powerful as the Holocene ends? Having the most emotionally and intellectually meaningful events in your life happen in the geekoverse? This book was a fun read. I'd really rate it at 3.5 stars, but that's not an option. This is definitely a YA book. That's not a bad thing, just unexpected. The narrator skews young. I found his knowledge to be a bit too convenient. I was also disappointed that the author overexplained every reference in the book. Trust your audience. If I'm reading a book with the title of Ready Player One, it's pretty much a given that I'm going to have a familiarity with the material. My other issue was really ...more
