This is a picture book with no words. This book shows one picture on each page that is connected to the picture before it. I would use this book to help teach an art lesson or a science lesson. Student's could get neat ideas from this book on projects they could make in an art class. This book could also be used to start a science discussion on how everything in life is connected and effcts ech other. ...more

This book starts with an illustration of what looks to be a simple drawing of a red mountain range. When you turn the page you see that what was on the previous page was really a detail of the very top of a rooster's head. The rooster does not completely fit on the page, which makes you wonder what will be on the next page. As you turn to see, you find that the rooster is standing on a fence and two children are watching it through a window. Just as the pages b Genre: Wordless Narrative

This book starts with an illustration of what looks to be a simple drawing of a red mountain range. When you turn the page you see that what was on the previous page was really a detail of the very top of a rooster's head. The rooster does not completely fit on the page, which makes you wonder what will be on the next page. As you turn to see, you find that the rooster is standing on a fence and two children are watching it through a window. Just as the pages before it, this illustration makes you wonder what will be next because it is not a complete frame. This pattern leads you through the story without words. It makes you guess what may be on the next page, and holds your interest because of this.

I enjoyed this book until the last few pages. The majority of images give you a hint to what you will find in the next one. You are able to see what was on the previous page as the images 'zoom' out; from the details on a magazine cover that is laying in a boy's lap, as he is seated in a chair on a large cruise ship, which is part of an advertisement on a bus in a city, which is taken from a television screen that a cowboy in arizona is watching, that is an image on a stamp, which is placed on a letter addressed to someone in Australia. This letter is being delivered to a man on an island which is when the images are no longer connected in the same way. The island is being flown over by another man, which can barely be spotted from outer-space. The last image is a small white dot on a black background, which is meant to represent the earth.

Activity #1: This book would be good from students of all ages. I could even see how it could be used in an upper level class. After reading the book, it would be great to have students create their own book or series of images that are connected. They could illustrate a story they made up, or a real life event. The teacher could even assign the project to a story or even that is common to all of the students, so there would be a great variety to all of the story.

Activity #2: Another activity the students could do would be to write a story about what they think of one of the images in the book. The students could even write what they think the page should say, and then the collection of text could accompany the book as the teacher reads it again. This would encourage creative thinking.
