This Shattered World is an infinity times better than These Broken Stars. If you’ve read my review for the first book, then you’ll understand that what I found lacking in the book was the adventure and world-building elements that make up a great science-fiction novel. If you set a story in space, I expect to read a ...more

Right now I am really feeling like Amie Kaufman AND Meagan Spooner can do no wrong.
To put it simply: This Shattered World was an absolutely stunning read. There really is no need to elaborate, because the awesomeness that takes place in the novel really speaks for itself.
I really loved this, the world, the characters, the tension, the build up....you name it, I adored it all. The way my rating system works is that I will give something five stars if there is nothing about it that I would change ...more

Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac, a captain and a rebel, looking for a reason why Avon isn't terraforming. The military wants peace for everyone on Avon, while the rebels want access to the medical supplies, food and education. I wasn't convinced when we left Lilac and Tarver in These Broken Stars that I'd be quite as sold on new star-crossed lovers. Wrong! Captain Jubilee (Lee) Chase and Flynn Cormac are on opposing sides of the war on Avon, military and rebel, both bad-ass, likable and both fighting for the same thing. Ok Flynn wasn't quite Tarver but he still got my vote ;)
This Shattered World is a darker, harsher tale than it's predecessor with the romance taking a back seat to war, death and madness. The ...more

Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should never have met. Lee is captain of the forces sent to Avon to crush the terraformed planet's rebellious colonists, while rebellion is in Flynn's blood. His sister died in the original uprising against the powerful corporate conglomerate that rules Avon with an iron fist. Desperate for any advantage against the military occupying his home, Flynn takes Lee as a prisoner. But as his fellow rebels prepare to execute her, Flynn makes another choice that will chang

I'm not sure if it's because I'm still a bit book drunk from the last novel I read and not quite ready to move onto a new world, but it took a while for me to connect with this book. For probably the first half I had to force myself.
I didn't find Jubilee and Flynn as likeable as Tarver and Lilac. Jubilee is hinted at being this cold hearted bitch, but I didn't find that's what we were actually shown. We're told she is 'Stone cold Chase' but her actions suggest otherwise.
