Jane Harper's third novel and even though there is a clever link to her bestseller The Dry this really is a stand alone. Largely a tale of family interaction her amazing strength as a writer is how she depicts the Australian landscape in all its desolation and harshness so much so that it becomes an integral character in her story. So Jane Harper has written two books I’ve really enjoyed, revolving around a police detective named Aaron Falk. This is a stand alone but I was already pretty confident I was going to like it and that was before I went to see her at an event at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville last week. I bought the book at the event and even though I’ve got a million other books ahead of it in my pile, sometimes you just have to forget about the pile and go for the one that you want to read the most.
