Oh, I love this! What a clever, funny, heartfelt, genuine story. Even if you've never picked up a comic before, I'd recommend this to you. It's that relatable.
Essentially it's about the human condition, wrapped up in a simple artificial intelligence plot. Alex receives an anatomically-correct android on his birthday, a present from his amusingly randy grandmother. She's got one of her own and she loooooves him!

It’s complicated, what makes a person. I think…part of it is experience—whether you seek them out or they come to you—and your reactions to them. Even then, you may not know exactly how something affects you, and sometimes that says even more. I guess the best way to understand something is to actually go through it yourself.

I began this with pre-conceived notions brought on by the Chobits, Vol. 01 series. The two stories seemed to have similar premises, and indeed they are very similar. Fortunately (in my opinion), Alex + Ada leaves out the not-at-all-overt sexual themes and the overdone anime tropes. I don't want to spoil the story, but I did love every minute reading this volume, and immediately upon finishing I pre-ordered the second volume! ...more

This is a nice opening to a series. While a little slow for my taste, I'm reserving judgement til further in. The creators have the potential and foundation to take this to some nicely amazing places, but this could also go down the road with oh so many human/android relationship tropes.
However, it's also a bit refreshing to respond to the question of "what do you think?" with "Hmm, I don't know yet, but I think I want to keep reading." ...more
