Why or why did I wait so long to begin the “Slammed” trilogy? Colleen Hoover’s “Hopeless” stole my heart and I was on pins and needles awaiting the second installment. So why didn’t I fill in the time with more Hoover spectaculars? I’ve been told time and again that I’m missing something wonderful by not pushing these to the top of the TBR stack. The only flimsy excuse I can honestly come up with is that sometimes my stubbornness and need for variety gets in the way of some of the best times to

Oh my freaking Lordy!! This book had be sobbing like a baby and smiling at the same time. When a book puts you on a rollercoaster of emotion, you know it's a good book. Lake's first "Slam" experience made me cry, and I was only 20 or so pages in. I WAS HOOKED, or should I say SLAMMED? The big reveal in the beginning had me floored. I sure didn't see that one coming. I LOVE the romantic tension throughout the WHOLE book.

I could not put this book down. I started it yesterday and stayed up half the night to finish it. I did scratch my head early on when the two main characters didn’t discuss certain pertinent details about their lives. Well that little oversight sets the stage for the conflict of the story that swept me away. Don’t you just love when a book completely sucks you in? I can’t remember the last time a book made me laugh and cry but this one had the tears streaming. Talk about cathartic! The character

The highest praise I can bestow upon Slammed and #2 in the series Point of Retreat (paperback/Kindle) is that they left me with the same kind of jaw dropping awe, passion and sense of complete reader satisfaction that I've only felt with two other contemporary books so far in 2012: John Green's The Fault in Our Stars (which had me choking back tears and hugging myself on an airplane) and Rachel Cohn & David Levithan's Dash & Lily's Book of ...more

This is one of the best books I have read in a very long time. I was touched by the characters....I felt their tension, their grief, their infatuation....it was a wonderful read. Also, the poetry in this book was truly incredible. Ms. Hoover is so talented..both as a novelist and as a poet....all of the poems in the book moved me....I was so impressed!! Will read this again and again....and am also starting book 2 immediately!
